Ferguson & The Imperviousness to Reason

[American Spectator] Although it has been factually established that Michael Brown never uttered the phrase “Hands up!!! Don’t shoot!!!” there will be always be those who are impervious to reason.

Exhibit #A would be Cristian Farias in this piece he wrote a couple of days ago in The New Republic titled “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot Was Not Based on a Lie”:

But the (DOJ) report does not equal justice. It is largely advisory. It can’t be challenged anywhere. And it ultimately proves nothing about the Ferguson case or its larger meaning in an ongoing national movement… –Read More…

Is the Obama Administration Anti-Semitic or Anti-Israel?

[PJMedia.com] When radio show host Mark Levin appeared on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox news earlier this week, he blasted the Obama administration for being anti-Semitic to its core.

“Mr. Holder, Mr. Obama, let’s have a national discussion about the anti-Semitism that reeks from your administration,” Levin said. Hannity then asked Levin whether he believes that Obama is personally a Jew hater. Levin: “Yes, I do.”

The question is: is he right? The current administration is clearly anti-Israel. Obama’s henchmen worked against Netanyahu, and the president himself vilifies Israel whenever he can. However, Obama’s supporters will argue that you can oppose Israel, while loving Jews! Yes! Truly! “There are even some orthodox Jews who oppose the existence of the Jewish state,” you can hear them say. –Read More…

Another Red Line? Reports Indicate Syria Used Chemical Weapons in Attack

[Newsmax.com] Syria seems to be following the same playbook it used with sarin. “Assad consistently would test and push the red lines of adversaries. Now you are seeing that with the use of chlorine,” said Andrew Tabler, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. “That combined with the comments of Secretary Kerry allowed him to project power to Syrians and ultimately perpetuate his hold on power through the use of chemical agents.”

Tabler was referring to Secretary of State John Kerry’s comments on Sunday — the fourth anniversary of the Syrian uprising — when he told CBS that the U.S. might negotiate directly with Assad to find an end to the war. The State Department later clarified that Kerry meant the U.S. would negotiate with representatives of the Assad regime, not with Assad himself.

Assad quickly pounced on Kerry’s comments, declaring on Iranian television that he wanted Kerry to back up his words with actions before he would engage in negotiations. Assad won a public relations victory by portraying Kerry’s statement as an endorsement of his legitimacy. –Read More…

From Tel Aviv to Turtle Bay

[ForeignPolicy.com] After years of blocking U.N. efforts to pressure Israelis and Palestinians into accepting a lasting two-state solution, the United States is edging closer toward supporting a U.N. Security Council resolution that would call for the resumption of political talks to conclude a final peace settlement, according to Western diplomats.

The move follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decisive re-election Tuesday after the incumbent publicly abandoned his commitment to negotiate a Palestinian state — the basis of more than 20 years of U.S. diplomatic efforts — and promised to continue the construction of settlements on occupied territory. The development also reflects deepening pessimism over the prospect of U.S.-brokered negotiations delivering peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Shortly before this week’s election, the United States informed its diplomatic partners that it would hold off any moves in the U.N. Security Council designed to put Israel on the spot at the United Nations in the event that Netanyahu’s challenger, Isaac Herzog, won the election. –Read More…

Cruz, Lankford Move to Protect Religious Freedom of D.C. Private Schools, Organizations

[DailySignal.com] On Wednesday, Senators Ted Cruz, R-Tex., and James Lankford, R-Okla., introduced resolutions of disapproval that, if passed by Congress and signed by the president, would effectively overturn two bad pieces of legislation passed by the D.C. council earlier this year.

In January, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser signed two euphemistically titled bills: the “Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Act” and the “Human Rights Amendment Act.” The former could force employers in the nation’s capital to cover elective, surgical abortions in their health plans and require pro-life organizations to hire individuals who advocate for abortion. The latter could force Christian schools to violate their beliefs about human sexuality and recognize an LGBT student group or host a “gay pride” day on campus.

Now, Congress has the opportunity to push back on these assaults on freedom and protect First Amendment rights in the District of Columbia. –Read More…

Norquist to Beck: 'Let's settle this once and for all'

[WND.com] “There’s never going to be an end to this as long as Frank Gaffney is breathing,” Mitchell told WND. “Gaffney will never give up. Frank Gaffney is obsessed with Grover Norquist, and I do not believe that kind of upset comes from a policy or issues difference. There’s something personal going back many years. I don’t know what it is. Gaffney’s attacks are irrational, not based on fact on anything I’ve been able to discern. ”

Gaffney’s book “Agent of Influence” opens with criticism of a memorandum Mitchell wrote to the ACU board Sept. 21, 2011, recommending the ACU should not remove Norquist from the board. The memo led the ACU to pass a resolution rejecting Gaffney’s charges while proclaiming the board had “complete confidence” in Norquist’s loyalty to the United States.

Mitchell, who more recently has represented conservative groups targeted by the IRS, explained in her memo that she had read materials provided by Gaffney and reviewed various videos, DVDs and a Power Point presentation that Gaffney produced alleging Norquist supported Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated radicals. –Read More…

Observers to Newsmax: Netanyahu Win Would 'Deeply Disappoint' Obama

[Newsmax.com] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s apparent victory in the country’s elections Tuesday will not sit very well with President Barack Obama, Rabbi Andrew Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center told Newsmax.

“If initial results hold, it means Netanyahu will be given time to forge a new coalition government, a result that will certainly deeply disappoint President Obama and some European leaders, who were hoping Israelis would swap out an intractable ‘hawk’ for a more flexible ‘dove,'” Cooper said.

Based in Los Angeles, the Simon Wiesenthal Center is a Jewish-rights organization. Cooper is associate dean.

“These leaders assumed that with Bibi [Netanyahu] out of the way, it would be easier to reach a quick final deal with Iran and hasten a two-state solution in the Holy Land before President Obama leaves office,” Cooper said. –Read More…

Air Force vet charged with trying to join ISIS

[FoxNews.com] An American citizen and U.S. Air Force veteran who worked as an airplane mechanic and was trained in weapons systems was charged Tuesday with trying to go to Syria to fight for ISIS, said federal prosecutors.

Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh, 47, of Asbury Park, N.J., was arrested Jan. 16, before he could carry out his plan to join the black-clad jihadist army, authorities said. He was indicted on two counts of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and obstruction of justice, U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch said in a news release.

“Born and raised in the United States, Pugh allegedly turned his back on his country and attempted to travel to Syria in order to join a terrorist organization,” Lynch said. –Read More…

State Dept. Finally Admits: No Record Hillary Clinton Signed Standard Exit Form

[Breitbart.com] Another piece of the puzzle fell into place in Hillary Clinton’s ever-deepening email scandal, as the State Department – following days of absolutely absurd foot-dragging – finally admitted it can’t seem to find any record of her signed Form OF-109.

This is a crucial document signed by departing State Department employees, testifying that all official records have been turned over, including – but not limited to – classified materials and emails. Since it is manifestly obvious that Hillary Clinton didn’t turn over all such materials, her signature on the OF-109 would have constituted perjury.

Ever since lawyers familiar with this document began describing it, the State Department has been asked to produce the exit paperwork for Clinton (and her top aides Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, and Philippe Reines, who also had accounts on Clinton’s secret email server.) The Republican National Committee filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the documents. Even Clinton-friendly reporters have been asking about it. –Read More…

Two Students Kicked From Anti-Racist Meeting For Being White

[DailyCaller.com] Two white students at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada were barred from attending an anti-racism meeting at the school after they were deemed insufficiently “racialized,” according to the school newspaper The Ryersonian.

Trevor Hewitt and Julia Knope, both first year journalism students, wanted to sit in on a March 11 meeting of the Racialised Students’ Collective for an assignment, but were told they were not welcome. According to the students, it was because as whites they were not themselves “racialized.”

According to the group’s Facebook page, the Racialised Students’ Collective’s goal is “to create and anti-racist climate on campus that will foster a healthy and rich working and learning environment for all.” The group’s focuses include “provid[ing] a safe space for… students who are committed to anti-racist action” and “challenging systemic institutional and overt racism at Ryerson.”

This weak in Washington

[HumanEvents.com] The Senate will finish debating a sex trafficking bill that is hung up on an abortion related provision, then to the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General. The Senate Budget Committee is expected to mark up the FY2016 budget.

No, that is not a spelling error in the title – Republicans are expected to be very weak this week.

[CNSNews.com] Inflation-adjusted federal tax revenues hit a record $1,185,613,000,000 in the first five months of fiscal 2015, but the federal government still ran a $386,537,000,000 deficit during that time, according to the latest Monthly Treasury Statement.

Each month, the Treasury publishes the government’s “total receipts,” including all revenue from individual income taxes, corporate income taxes, social insurance and retirement taxes (including Social Security and Medicare taxes), unemployment insurance taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and “miscellaneous receipts.”

In constant 2015 dollars, the $1,185,613,000,000 that the federal government collected from October through February in fiscal 2015 was $94,803,620,000 more than the $1,090,809,380,000 it collected in October through February in fiscal 2014. –Read More…
