(Newsbusters.org) Monday’s Style section of the Washington Post was topped by a surprising story: “An abortion provider is on trial: Where’s the media coverage?” Sadly, what followed was a denial that there’s any evidence of liberal bias, and a parade of utterly unconvincing evasions, excuses, and accusations against conservative media.
Post reporter Paul Farhi credited the “conservative Media Research Center” with asking if the blackout of the Kermit Gosnell trial could be caused by the “mainstream media’s supposed support for abortion rights.” This story utterly erodes the word “mainstream” for them. Start with the maddening list of official media responses to where they’ve been on Gosnell:
“The story is on our radar,” said Liz Fischer, a spokeswoman for NBC News. “We understand the importance of the issue and we’ll continue to cover the broader questions as news warrants.” She declined to comment further. [“On our radar” is a publicist’s way of saying “on our cutting-room floor.”]
(FoxNews) Pope Francis used his first Easter Sunday Mass as pontiff to make a world peace plea, saying that conflicts have lasted too long in Syria, in addition to urging unity in Africa and the Korean peninsula.
Before a crowd of 250,000 in St. Peter’s Square, he also denounced warfare and terrorism across the world, and decried a greedy affluent world looking for `’easy gain.”
“And so we ask the risen Jesus, who turns death into life, to change hatred into love, vengeance into forgiveness, war into peace,” Pope Francis said. “Peace for the Middle East, and particularly between Israelis and Palestinians, who struggle to find the road of agreement, that they may willingly and courageously resume negotiations to end a conflict that has lasted all too long. Peace in Iraq, that every act of violence may end, and above all for dear Syria, for its people torn by conflict and for the many refugees who await help and comfort. How much blood has been shed! And how much suffering must there still be before a political solution to the crisis will be found?”
(Breitbart.com) On Monday, RNC Chair Reince Priebus, in a much-anticipated appearance at the National Press Club, will lay out a blueprint of reforms to make the GOP more competitive. The goal is to correct a number of missteps that cost the party a number of close elections last November. Breitbart News has learned, exclusively, that the RNC plans to revamp its political education efforts and put a renewed emphasis on direct training of activists around the country.
In the 1990s, a Republican organization, GOPAC, ran a very successful training and education program. Using the technology of the time, it distributed tens of thousands of audio cassettes to candidates and activists throughout the country. priebus-gavel-afp-THUMBThe materials provided issue education, as well as tips and tactics for successful campaigns. The new RNC effort to be announced Monday is, in many ways, a return to these roots.
“In order prepare for 2014, 2016 and beyond the RNC needs to lead the way in training our candidates and activists with the tools and techniques they need to win,” Sean Spicer, Communications Director for the RNC, told Breitbart News. “Utilizing both in person and online classes, we will ensure we have people from coast to coast training in the key areas of campaigns.”
No Deal! Bishops to Administration: You Can’t Force Lay Catholics to Act Against Faith February 7, 2013
(CNSNews.com) – Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued a statement on Thursday signaling to the Obama Administration that the bishops will not make a separate deal to exempt Catholic institutions from an Obamacare mandate that requires health-care plans to cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs that leaves lay Catholic business owners and individual employees still subject to the mandate.
“In obedience to our Judeo-Christian heritage, we have consistently taught our people to live their lives during the week to reflect the same beliefs that they proclaim on the Sabbath,” said Cardinal Dolan. “We cannot now abandon them to be forced to violate their morally well-informed consciences.”
The cardinal said the bishops will also continue to support the many lawsuits against the regulation–including those brought by private busineses–that are moving forward in federal courts around the country.
(DailyBeast) Our government has been hijacked by a party obsessed with a higher power. But I’m not talking about the GOP. I’m talking about the left and their worship of government. The problem isn’t religious conservatives and their abiding faith in God; it’s mainstream liberals and their blind confidence in government.
Consider the current dispute over the right response to gun violence. At its core, this argument comes down to a visceral disagreement between relying on self-defense or on government protection. Gun-rights enthusiasts insist that the best security for law-abiding citizens comes from placing formidable firearms into their hands; gun-control advocates believe we can protect the public far more effectively by taking guns away from as many Americans as possible. In other words, conservatives want to address the threat of gun violence by giving individuals more power while liberals seek to improve the situation by concentrating more power in the hands of the government. The right preaches self-reliance while the left places its trust in the higher power of government.
